Tough Moments For Ruto After Latest Opinion Poll Reveals What Might Happen During 2027 Election

President William Ruto is facing growing competition ahead of the August 2027 General Election after a new opinion poll placed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna just one percentage point behind him.

According to a survey released by Research 8020, Ruto received 26 per cent support among respondents asked to identify their preferred presidential candidate, while Sifuna followed closely with 25 per cent.

The reported findings highlight the increasingly competitive political landscape as opposition leaders intensify criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration over taxation, economic policies and the rising cost of living.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka secured 11 per cent support, while former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i attracted 9 per cent, according to the survey.

Combined, the three opposition figures received 45 per cent support, significantly exceeding Ruto’s individual rating. However, their combined figures do not establish how voters would behave if the leaders agreed to support a single candidate.

The findings come amid discussions about possible political alliances and efforts by opposition figures to challenge Ruto’s re-election bid.

Sifuna has attracted national attention through his political activities and association with the Linda Mwananchi movement, which has featured prominently in debates about ODM’s future direction.

Whether opposition leaders can overcome their differences and agree on a joint presidential candidate remains uncertain.

With the 2027 elections approaching, political alliances, campaign strategies and voter priorities are expected to influence the contest.

The poll’s methodology and sample details would be important in assessing how representative its findings are.
