SC Ahmednasir Reacts After Dangote Purchased KPC Shares at Kshs 42 Billion, Dismisses Ndindi Nyoro

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has been linked to the growing debate surrounding Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote’s acquisition of a 24.76 per cent stake in the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC), valued at approximately KSh42.5 billion.

The transaction has attracted public attention, particularly following questions raised by People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro regarding the sale of shares in the strategic state-linked enterprise.

Dangote’s investment represents a significant development in Kenya’s petroleum industry, given KPC’s critical role in transporting fuel to different parts of the country and supplying neighbouring markets.

Nyoro has questioned the circumstances surrounding the transaction, raising concerns about the interests of public institutions that previously held shares in the company. His criticism has added to the wider political debate over the government’s privatisation programme and the management of public investments.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, however, has defended the transaction, maintaining that the sale was a commercial arrangement involving willing buyers and sellers.

The debate has also drawn attention to Ahmednasir, whose reported reaction has been associated with criticism of Nyoro’s position. However, the exact wording of the lawyer’s remarks could not be independently established.

Dangote’s acquisition comes at a time when Kenya is seeking to attract private investment into major infrastructure and energy projects. The billionaire has also been associated with plans for a proposed petroleum refinery in Lamu, which could transform the region’s fuel supply network if implemented.

The KPC transaction is therefore likely to remain a subject of public discussion as Kenyans seek clarity on the benefits of the deal and its implications for the country’s economy.

As the political exchanges continue, the central questions concern transparency, accountability and whether the transaction will deliver long-term value to Kenya.
