Political Showdown as Gideon Moi Spills The Beans on What Went Wrong in His Deal With Ruto

KANU chairman Gideon Moi has finally spoken about his fallout with President William Ruto, revealing what he claims went wrong after their unexpected political agreement in October 2025.

Moi accused the Head of State of betraying their understanding, claiming that promises made during their political rapprochement were never fulfilled.

Speaking to Kalenjin elders at his Kabarak home, the former Baringo senator explained why he agreed to step aside in the Baringo senatorial by-election in favour of Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

According to Moi, his decision was not driven by personal interests or political ambitions. Instead, he expected the agreement to benefit residents of Baringo County through development projects.

However, he now claims that the promises made during the deal have not been honoured.

The revelations have raised questions about what really happened behind the scenes between the two political leaders who had surprised many Kenyans with their sudden cooperation.

Moi further linked the breakdown of their relationship to the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, arguing that the political situation changed significantly after the veteran opposition leader passed away.

He claimed that when he sought the implementation of their agreement, Ruto asked him to wait until mourning-related matters had been concluded.

Moi alleged that the delay did not lead to a resolution. Instead, he claimed that some individuals within UDA became increasingly hostile towards him.

The KANU chairman also alleged that he and members of his family faced verbal attacks and political pressure, with concerns extending to businesses associated with the Moi family.

These claims paint a different picture of the political understanding that had brought the two sides closer last year.

Ruto has reportedly accused Gideon Moi of using the family-owned Standard Media Group to publish what he described as extortionist propaganda headlines intended to undermine his administration.

Moi has rejected the allegations, maintaining that the media organisation operates independently.

The exchange now puts their former political relationship under fresh scrutiny as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.

For residents of Baringo, the question is whether the development projects Moi says were promised will eventually materialise.

For other Kenyans, the bigger question is whether this fallout signals the end of an alliance that once appeared to open a new chapter in the country’s political landscape.

What do you think? Was the agreement doomed from the beginning, or did political interests change after Raila Odinga’s death?
