Today’s Headlines: Tinubu Deserves Second Term — Batified Obidients; Osinbajo Hails Awo’s Leadership
A former Personal Assistant to the late Dr Doyin Okupe and South-West Coordinator of the Batified Obidients, Banwo Mayowa, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves a second term in 2027 to consolidate ongoing economic reforms. Speaking in Abuja in an address titled “2027: Look beyond politics, think about Nigeria’s future,” Mayowa urged Nigerians to prioritise long-term national interest over political rivalries and examine the evidence of difficult but necessary reforms initiated since May 2023, including the removal of fuel subsidies and correction of foreign exchange distortions. He acknowledged the significant hardship these reforms have imposed on households and businesses but argued that continuity is essential so that the progress already made can be deepened rather than abandoned with a change in leadership. Mayowa pointed to reported GDP growth of 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, more than 2,700 kilometres of roads under construction, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) that has supported over 1.5 million students as signs of a clearer development direction that now needs stronger implementation to deliver local manufacturing, agricultural productivity, jobs, and shared prosperity.

A former Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has again hailed the visionary leadership of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, saying people must continue to draw significant lessons from the late sage’s life and legacy by investing in education, innovation and ambitious development initiatives capable of transforming the country and its people.
Osinbajo said Ikenne, the birthplace of the former Premier of the defunct Western Region, must also build on Awolowo’s legacy of visionary leadership, educational advancement and purposeful public service to prepare for future opportunities and challenges.
He challenged the community to embrace artificial intelligence, robotics and technology-driven education, proposing a 10-year development blueprint, tagged the Ikenne 2036 Plan, to establish the town as a centre of technological innovation in Africa.
The family of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya has disputed claims by his estranged son, Fatai, about their decades-long separation, saying he continues to receive financial support from his father.
The family, in a statement issued on Thursday by Eleganza Industry Limited’s Senior Public Relations Manager, Nathaniel Omeninwan, accused Fatai of taking private family matters into the public domain to attract sympathy and discredit other family members.
While Fatai described himself as Okoya’s first child in his appeal, the family said in its statement that he was the businessman’s third child.
The Gombe State House of Assembly has approved proposed constitutional amendments to pave the way for the establishment of State Police in Nigeria.
The development followed an earlier statement made to newsmen by the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Aliyu Baba Manu, that the bill had not been officially presented to lawmakers.
According to a report of the Assembly’s proceedings, the lawmakers considered and adopted the recommendations of a seven-member ad hoc committee on constitutional review, endorsing proposed amendments to various provisions of the 1999 Constitution, including those relating to the establishment and operation of State Police Services.
With this, 25 state legislatures have endorsed state police
The reported action marks a significant step in Gombe State’s participation in the ongoing constitutional process aimed at decentralising policing and strengthening Nigeria’s response to mounting security challenges.
