You Promised Kenkey At ₵1, Now It Is ₵10 – NPP’s Moses Abor Fires At NDC Over Cost Of Living

The Greater Accra Regional Organiser of the NPP, Moses Abor, has taken on the NDC government over the rising price of kenkey, one of Ghana’s most common foods.

According to him, the NDC made big promises about kenkey when they were in opposition, but today the reality is worse.

“Kenkey cost ₵3 under former President Akufo-Addo. NDC told Ghanaians the price was unacceptable and promised to reduce it to ₵1, today, it costs between ₵8 and ₵10,” he said.

Moses Abor said when the NPP was in power, a ball of kenkey was GH¢3. The NDC went around telling Ghanaians that GH¢3 was too expensive and that they would bring it down to GH¢1 if they won power.

But a few days ago, when he himself went to buy kenkey in Ashaiman, one ball was GH¢10, not GH¢5.

“They said the NPP was not good, but when we were in power, kenkey was GH¢3. Now, kenkey costs GH¢10,” he added.

For him, kenkey is not just food. It is how ordinary Ghanaians measure hardship. If a poor worker could buy kenkey at GH¢3 under Akufo-Addo and now needs GH¢10 for the same ball, then cost of living has gone up, not down.

His comments have sparked debate on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing the prices of kenkey in their own areas – some saying GH¢5, some GH¢7, and others GH¢10.

Moses Abor says the NDC must explain why a promise of GH¢1 has turned into GH¢10 on the ground.
