You Can’t Control Sammy Gyamfi and Ablakwa, How Can You Advise Putin? – Daasebre Fires Mahama

Social media commentator Daasebre has launched a strong attack on President John Dramani Mahama over his plan to advise Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine.

President Mahama, speaking at the Financial Times Africa Summit in London on October 21, 2026, said he will use his upcoming trip to Russia for the Russia-Africa Summit to try and convince President Putin to agree to a ceasefire.

“I’m going to Russia for the Russia-Africa Summit and try to convince President Putin to have a ceasefire if I can,” Mahama said.

But Daasebre says the President should look at home first before trying to fix the world.

In a hard-hitting post that has gone viral, Daasebre asked:

“You can’t even advise Sammy Gyamfi and Okudzeto Ablakwa so what makes you think you can advise Vladimir Putin?”

According to Daasebre, President Mahama has failed to properly advise and control his own appointees, who have been in the news for controversial actions.

Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board and NDC National Communications Officer, recently came under fire for public display of dollars, while Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has also been criticized for some of his foreign policy moves and public statements.

Daasebre argues that if Mahama cannot put his own boys in check and advise them to act right, he has no moral right to go and advise a world superpower like Vladimir Putin, who has been at war with Ukraine for four years.

“Charity begins at home. Fix your house before you try to fix the world. Ghanaians are suffering, your ministers are misbehaving, you can’t advise them, but you want to go and advise Putin to stop war. Who is going to listen to you?” Daasebre wrote.

The comment has sparked massive reactions on social media.

Some Ghanaians agree with Daasebre, saying Mahama’s plan to appeal to Putin for a ceasefire is just for international attention and will not work.

Others are defending the President, saying his intention to seek peace is a bold and brave move for an African leader and shows Ghana’s commitment to global peace. They say Ghana will leverage its friendly relations with Russia to help broker peace.

As of now, President Mahama has not responded to Daasebre’s criticism. He is expected to travel to Moscow next week for the Russia-Africa Summit.
