Kenyan Cleaner in Germany Explains Why She Still Loves Her Job After 17 Years
Charity Watetu, a Kenyan woman living in Germany, has defended her job as a cleaner after 17 years in Europe.
She spoke out on October 22, 2026, on Facebook, after someone who watched her video asked why she was still doing cleaning work after living so long in Germany, and whether there were no better jobs.
Charity said Germany has many fancy jobs, but cleaning is the work she chose because it makes her happy and comfortable. She said cleaning is not a punishment and it is not a sign of failure.
She said, “I have never considered cleaning a punishment or a sign of failure.” She said people should not judge a job by how long someone has lived abroad.
She explained that she started cleaning in 2010 because she wanted to bring her sons to Germany. The immigration rules required her to have a stable job first.
She found a hotel cleaning job, worked hard, and used her salary to meet the requirements. She was able to bring her sons to join her.
Her story has inspired many Kenyans abroad who say honest work has no shame.https://www.facebook.com/100067867727102/posts/1493968112875432/?app=fbl
