Standstill at CUEA 45th Graduation as Crowds Burst into Uncontrollable Cheers After Sifuna Called

Proceedings at the 45th graduation ceremony of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) at its Lang’ata campus briefly came to a standstill when the crowd erupted into loud cheers following the introduction of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

The ceremony brought together university officials, invited guests, family members and hundreds of graduands to celebrate their academic achievements.

Before the formal presentation of degrees, university officials recognised several prominent guests in attendance. Those introduced included former Makueni Governor and African Leadership University Chancellor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Migori County Woman Representative Fatuma Mohamed and nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana, who was also graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Project Planning and Management.

The atmosphere changed noticeably when the master of ceremonies announced Sifuna’s presence. Graduands and other attendees responded with enthusiastic cheering and applause, briefly interrupting the programme as university officials waited for the crowd to settle.

Once the noise subsided, the ceremony continued with keynote speeches and the conferral of degrees.

CUEA Chancellor, Right Reverend Bishop George Nkuutu, addressed the gathering, welcoming the invited guests and international academic partners, including representatives from Marywood University.

The Chancellor also thanked the AMECEA bishops for electing him to the position during their plenary assembly hosted at the university. He reaffirmed CUEA’s commitment to academic excellence, ethical leadership and holistic education across Eastern Africa.

He congratulated the graduating class on reaching this milestone, praising their perseverance and urging them to use their education and skills to serve society as they begin the next stages of their professional lives.
