Raila Junior Declares Loyalty to ODM, Accuses Defectors of Trying to Take Party Backwards
Raila Odinga Junior has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement, declaring that he remains committed to the political party he personally chose and the legacy of his late father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In his remarks, Raila Junior maintained that he had no intention of abandoning ODM, insisting that the party should continue building on the political foundation established by his father.
He also criticised individuals who have left the party, accusing them of attempting to reverse the progress ODM has made over the years.
βMimi kama kijana wa Baba, niko katika chama cha ODM. Hiki ndicho chama nilichochagua,β Raila Junior said, expressing his continued commitment to the party.
He argued that those who had walked away from ODM were the ones attempting to take the party backwards, while those remaining inside the political outfit were determined to move forward.
According to Raila Junior, ODM should remain focused on advancing the political journey started by his father rather than allowing internal disagreements and defections to derail its progress.
His remarks come amid continuing political discussions surrounding the future of ODM following the death of Raila Odinga, who played a central role in shaping Kenya’s opposition politics for decades.
Raila Odinga was widely recognised for his influence in the country’s multiparty democracy, constitutional reforms and the growth of ODM into one of Kenya’s most prominent political parties.
His political legacy continues to attract attention as party leaders and supporters debate the direction ODM should take in the coming years.
Raila Junior’s declaration of loyalty is likely to resonate with supporters who believe the party should preserve its identity and maintain the political principles associated with its founding leadership.
His comments also highlight the divisions that can emerge within political parties when members disagree over leadership, strategy and future political alliances.
The question of whether ODM should maintain its traditional political direction or pursue new partnerships remains an important issue for its leaders and supporters.
For Raila Junior, however, the immediate message is that leaving the party is not the solution to the challenges it faces.
Instead, he believes those who remain committed to ODM should concentrate on strengthening the organisation and protecting the progress achieved under his father’s leadership.
His statement could further fuel debate among ODM supporters, particularly at a time when Kenya’s political landscape is gradually shifting towards preparations for the 2027 General Election.
As political realignments continue, ODM’s ability to maintain unity and define its future direction will be closely watched.
Raila Junior’s remarks underline his position that the party should continue moving forward rather than allow defections to reverse the gains made during Raila Odinga’s political journey.
