Duru passed away after a brief illness on Friday, October 23, 2026, bringing renewed attention to his personal life and the tragic loss of his 15-year-old son, Ifeanyi, in August 2024.

In the emotional tribute written to his son at the time, Duru expressed deep grief while leaning on his faith, calling Ifeanyi his champion and fighter.

“My champ!! My lion…you fought like a lion…if this is the way He wants it, so be it, I still judge you faithful,” Duru wrote. “Ifeanyi, my champ….I will miss you, son….I will forever love you….Rest in peace, son…rest….I give you thanks, Lord!”

Alongside the tribute to his son, moving words written by the actor to his wife, Adokiye, during their 23rd wedding anniversary have also drawn widespread emotional reactions.

Duru had publicly celebrated his wife for her patience, loyalty, and sacrifices throughout their marriage, describing her as the bedrock of their home.

“It’s 23 years stuck together, glued together…looks like yesterday,” he wrote. “Thank you so much for making it so worthwhile… your tolerance, perseverance, your endless sacrifice for the family… you remain our anchor, our strong tower.”
