Adwoa Safo announces decision to contest Dome-Kwabenya NPP parliamentary seat

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has declared her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries to seek another mandate as the party’s candidate for the constituency.

In a statement dated Thursday, October 22, 2026, the former Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection said the decision followed careful consideration, consultations and discussions with party leaders and executives.

Mrs Safo explained that although she had previously expressed interest in exploring opportunities outside the constituency, she had reconsidered her position and decided that continuing to represent the people of Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament remained her priority.

“After considerable reflection, extensive consultation, and broad-based engagement with party leadership and executives, guided by my own conviction and unwavering loyalty to the Principles and Values of our political tradition, I formally announce my intention to once again present myself for consideration as the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency when the party announces the timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary primaries,” she stated.

She said her decision was informed by her continued dedication to the constituency and her belief that she still had more to offer its development.

Mrs Safo described Dome-Kwabenya as one of Ghana’s rapidly expanding constituencies, noting that its growth presented both development prospects and challenges that required sustained attention.

Looking back on her 12-year tenure as MP, she said she had collaborated with constituents, party members, traditional and religious leaders, and other stakeholders to address local concerns and advance development.

“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she added.

Her declaration sets the stage for a possible contest for the NPP parliamentary candidature in Dome-Kwabenya, pending the party’s announcement of the timetable and guidelines for its primaries.
