Dzokoto Found Respect in Death: How Professional Journalism Comforted A Nation โ Opinion
byEbenezer MaduguOctober 23, 20260 In times of grief, Ghana often bleeds twice.
First, from the loss of a loved one. Second, from how that loss is reported – graphic videos, screaming thumbnails, insensitive live broadcasts chasing likes and clicks.
We have all seen it. And we have all been hurt by it.
That is why yesterday, OWASS FM in Tarkwa did not just report news. They restored faith.
When veteran actor Kwame Dzokoto collapsed during the Oman Nkosuo show, presenter Prince Kwaw Gyimah had a choice that many in his position have abused – keep the camera rolling for virality, or cut the feed to preserve human dignity.
He stopped the show. He rushed a dying man to the hospital. He did not sell his pain.
In that single act of professionalism, an entire nation found comfort. The mourning became decent. The tributes became respectful. The soul of a legend was allowed to rest in peace, not as content.

This is what professional journalism does in hard times. It does not double our sorrow. It cushions it. It reminds us that even in death, a person deserves respect.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the National Media Commission have been fighting this war against unprofessionalism for years. Yesterday, OWASS FM gave them a perfect example. A case study. A hope.
Now, let us not just tweet praises and move on.
We call on the GJA, the Media Commission, and Corporate Ghana to celebrate Prince Kwaw Gyimah and the OWASS FM team. Invite him, award him, sponsor him.
When we sponsor professionals, the profession grows. When the profession grows, Ghana benefits.
Yesterday, one man refused to trend for the wrong reason. And for that, the whole nation is grateful.
Well done, Prince Gyimah. Well done, OWASS FM.
