DStv Kenya will unveil its new era on 26th October

MultiChoice Kenya will unveil “a New Era for DStv” on Monday 26th October 2026. MultiChoice Kenya hasn’t said what the new era is. We think that this will be where the new set of packages DStv has been teasing since 6th October under the slogan DStv Expect More.

DStv belongs to MultiChoice, which the French pay-TV company Canal+ took over last year. Canal+ has since been cutting the number of packages DStv sells. South Africa switched to five packages on 17th September 2026, and we set out those packages and prices earlier this month. Nigeria followed on 15th October, when MultiChoice’s Nigerian chief executive announced five packages there: Premium, Starter, Select, Sports, and Movies & Series. The rest of sub-Saharan Africa is due to get the new structure from November. Canal+ Africa’s chief executive, David Mignot, has said MultiChoice had too many price points and packages.

Kenya has six packages today. Lite costs KES 750 a month and Premium costs KES 11,700. The six work as a ladder, where each step up adds more channels to the one below. South Africa’s new packages break that ladder, with one built around sport and another around movies and series. If Kenya follows, a household that only wants football could stop paying for the movie channels. DStv hasn’t said that.

The Communications Authority counts 259,047 active DStv satellite subscriptions in Kenya at the end of June 2026. That’s 10,994 more than in March, after DStv lost 22,450 in the first quarter.

There are streaming customers to think about too. Showmax, MultiChoice’s standalone streaming service, shut on 30 April, and former Kenyan users were offered DStv Stream Compact at KES 550 a month for a year, before the price goes back to KES 4,200. The invitation’s “customer offering” could cover streaming, but it doesn’t say so.
