Niger LG shuts down ice cream factories after finding flies in mixtures

The Bida Local Government Council in Niger State has shut down some ice cream production facilities over poor hygiene and failure to meet regulatory requirements.

The council said an inspection revealed flies in ice cream mixtures, unlabelled products and the absence of operating licences and NAFDAC registration.

Laboratory tests reportedly showed that the products lacked nutritional value and contained substances considered harmful to human health.

The council said it had stopped production at the affected facilities and warned that businesses violating food safety regulations would face appropriate sanctions.

The council also urged residents to report suspicious food production activities to the authorities.
