Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has advised people to remain focused on their goals and protect their self-worth, warning against losing themselves in romantic relationships.
Akindele, in a message on her Instagram on Thursday, reflecting on success, sacrifice and personal growth, noted that building something from scratch often requires sleepless nights, hard work and significant sacrifices before recognition and accolades eventually come.
She, however, cautioned that distractions can come in different forms, including romantic relationships, urging people not to allow love to derail their ambitions.
“Nothing wrong with falling in love o\! Just don’t lose yourself,” she said.
The filmmaker stressed the importance of knowing one’s worth, staying focused and prioritising self-love, even while pursuing a romantic relationship.
According to her, people must learn to maintain their identity and remain committed to their aspirations rather than abandon the dreams they have worked hard to achieve.
“Know your worth, stay focused and love yourself first,” she added.
Akindele also acknowledged that the message served as a personal reminder, noting, “I’m preaching to myself too\!”
Her message highlights the need to strike a balance between romantic relationships and personal ambitions, particularly for individuals who have invested considerable time and effort in building their careers.
It also reinforces the importance of self-awareness and maintaining personal boundaries in relationships, reminding people that falling in love should not mean losing sight of their purpose.
The actress’s message serves as a reminder that while love can be an important part of life, individuals should continue to value themselves, nurture their ambitions and remain committed to their personal growth.
