“Vote On 4 November Or The Thieves Will Return” Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma Warn March and March Supporters
March and March movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma has called on her supporters to vote in South Africa’s upcoming elections on 4 November, warning that low voter turnout could allow politicians accused of corruption to regain political power.
Speaking during an interview with the KZN Podcast, Ngobese-Zuma emphasised the importance of participating in the electoral process, urging supporters not to allow frustration with the political system to discourage them from casting their ballots.
She warned that people who choose not to vote could unintentionally contribute to the return of leaders they oppose. According to Ngobese-Zuma, staying away from polling stations could create an opportunity for politicians she describes as thieves to remain in or return to positions of authority.
Her remarks were aimed primarily at members and supporters of the March and March movement, whom she encouraged to take the elections seriously and understand the potential consequences of voter apathy.
Ngobese-Zuma stressed that citizens who want political change must be prepared to participate in the democratic process. She argued that refusing to vote would not necessarily solve the problems people have with political leadership but could instead benefit established politicians seeking to retain their positions.
The movement leader also urged supporters to mobilise their communities ahead of election day. She encouraged them to engage with residents, explain the importance of voting and motivate eligible citizens to participate in determining the country’s political future.
Her appeal comes as political parties and movements prepare to compete for support ahead of South Africa’s local government elections. The elections will give voters an opportunity to choose representatives responsible for governing municipalities and addressing issues affecting their communities.
Service delivery, unemployment, infrastructure development, municipal accountability and the management of public funds are among the concerns expected to influence voters’ decisions.
For Ngobese-Zuma, encouraging supporters to participate in the elections is a priority. Her message suggests that citizens who are dissatisfied with the current political leadership should use their votes to express their preferences rather than withdraw from the electoral process.
Voter turnout can significantly influence election outcomes because the results depend on the ballots cast by participating voters. When eligible citizens choose not to vote, they leave the decision-making process to those who turn out on election day.
However, Ngobese-Zuma’s description of certain politicians as thieves reflects her political criticism and should not be interpreted as an independently established finding against the individuals she may be referring to.
As 4 November approaches, her message to March and March supporters remains focused on participation, community mobilisation and political accountability.
She believes that those seeking a different political outcome must take an active role in the elections rather than leave the decision to others. Whether her appeal will translate into increased voter participation among her supporters remains to be seen.
