Fred Matiang’i-Kalonzo Surge Ahead in 2027 Presidential Polls, Ruto Faces Major Drop In Popularity
A recent opinion poll has shaken up the political landscape ahead of Kenya’s 2027 general elections.
The survey, conducted by Tuko, reveals surprising changes in voter preferences, particularly after former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i entered the presidential race.
Matiang’i, paired with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, is now the leading duo in the race, receiving 40.9% of the vote.
This strong support signals that many Kenyans are looking for a fresh approach to leadership, one that focuses on technocratic governance and building strong coalitions.
The poll results also show that former Chief Justice David Maraga and Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah are not far behind, garnering 40% of the support.
This suggests that there is a significant portion of the electorate that is interested in leaders who are seen as reformists, with a focus on defending the Constitution and promoting justice.
Many Kenyans appear to be looking for a leadership that stands for integrity and reforms, rather than the status quo.
In a surprising twist, President William Ruto’s chances for re-election seem to be shrinking.
Paired with Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, Ruto received just 14.8% of the votes in the poll.
This sharp drop in support highlights a growing sense of dissatisfaction with his leadership, especially as issues like the cost of living and governance continue to dominate public discourse.
Meanwhile, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, who is often seen as a strong voice for women and justice, is not gaining as much traction in the poll.
Alongside activist Morara, she received only 4.3% of the vote, placing them at the bottom of the survey rankings.
These results suggest a significant shift in how Kenyans are thinking about their political future.
Voters are increasingly prioritizing leadership qualities like integrity, constitutional defense, and a focus on reform.
