Man Utd fear Benjamin Sesko will be sidelined until new year after suffering setback in recovery
According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Manchester United are concerned that Benjamin Sesko could remain sidelined until the new year after suffering a setback in his recovery from injury.
The Slovenian striker has been out of action for five weeks with an injury separate from the shin problem that reportedly affected him for six months.
According to The Sun, the 23-year-old has undergone further medical examinations at United’s Carrington training complex, with fears growing that his absence could extend for several more months.
Although sources close to Sesko remain hopeful that he will not be sidelined until February, concerns persist that the forward could face a lengthy spell away from the pitch.
The situation presents a potential challenge for Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick, who may have to reconsider his attacking options if Sesko remains unavailable for an extended period.
Sesko scored 12 goals during his debut campaign at Old Trafford, establishing himself as an important option in United’s attack.
With uncertainty surrounding his recovery, the club could consider signing another striker during the January transfer window. United did not bring in a backup centre-forward last summer after failing to find a solution for Joshua Zirkzee, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under Carrick.
Bryan Mbeumo has also been deployed in a central attacking role after Matheus Cunha initially operated as the team’s striker this season. According to the report, Mbeumo is currently United’s joint-top scorer with four goals.
Carrick has acknowledged that the club is working to gain a clearer understanding of Sesko’s condition.
“We’re hoping really soon that we’ll have a clear picture,” he said on Tuesday, adding that he hoped to provide a more detailed update by the end of the week.
Manchester United are now awaiting further information about the striker’s recovery, with the possibility of an extended absence potentially shaping their plans for the coming months.
