Big Push will advance eco-tourism development in Bono East – Regional Minister

Busunya, (Bono East) Oct. 21, GNA – Mr Francis Owusu Antwi Bono East Regional Minister says the execution of the government’s “Big Push” Road infrastructure initiative would boost ecotourism development in the region.

He said roads being reshaped under the initiative would create accessibility to tourist destination sites and thereby boost the region’s eco-tourism sector and to spur economic growth and development.

Mr Antwi said this when he inspected the progress of work on the construction of some road projects under the ‘Big Push’ initiative at Busunya in the Nkoranza North District of the region.

He noted that poor road network in parts of the region was hindering revenue generation, saying that Buabeng-Fiema Monkey sanctuary and other tourist destination sites in the region were not fetching the region the required revenue due to bad roads in those areas.

Mr Antwi lauded the ‘Big Push’ saying that it would help the region to overcome some road transport challenges and to transform its tourism sector.

He bemoaned that the deplorable conditions of the network linking some tourist destination sites in the region had been left unattended to for some years now and hindering the growth of the sector.

Mr Patrick Effah, the Nkoranza North District Chief Executive commended the government for prioritizing the road sector saying that the district was benefiting from the ‘Big Push’ initiative.

Mr Stephen Quiano, the Bono East Regional Manager of the Department of Feeder Roads expressed satisfaction about the progress and quality of works on some of the road projects in the region.

In all, he said that Nkoranza North was benefiting from construction of a 74-kilometer road network project.

The Regional minister and his entourage inspected ongoing construction and upgrading Buabeng-Fiema and the Tankor-Fiema-Buabeng-Busunya road projects.

Other projects include the Bono Manso-Kranka-Pinihin and the Bodom-Senya-Bonte-Busunya road projects.

Construction works on those projects were progressing steadily, with some of them experiencing asphalting, bitumen, drainage and culvert as well as base laying works.
