NPA Steps Up Monitoring to Ensure Quality Petroleum Products – Edudzi Tameklo
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) says it is strengthening its monitoring and quality assurance systems to ensure that petroleum products sold on the Ghanaian market meet established standards.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, said protecting consumers remains a central part of the NPA’s responsibilities, which go beyond regulating activities in the petroleum downstream sector.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, during a working visit by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
According to Tameklo, the Authority considers quality assurance an ongoing responsibility, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that consumers receive petroleum products that meet the required standards.
He explained that regulation alone was not enough, stressing the need to ensure that its enforcement delivers tangible benefits to the public.
Tameklo noted that the NPA has deployed monitoring teams to various stages of the petroleum supply chain, including import terminals, refineries, storage depots and retail outlets nationwide.
The monitoring activities are intended to identify potential quality issues and help ensure that products distributed to consumers comply with the applicable requirements.
He also disclosed that the Authority had introduced toll-free telephone lines to make it easier for consumers to report concerns about the quality of petroleum products.
The system allows members of the public to contact the NPA with complaints, enabling the Authority to receive information and respond to reported concerns.
Tameklo emphasised that consumer welfare remains at the centre of the Authority’s work, adding that efforts to improve petroleum product quality would continue.
The measures form part of the NPA’s broader responsibility to protect consumers and promote compliance with quality standards across Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry.
