Today’s Headlines:Ex-NAHCON Chairman: Denying Tinubu second term could trigger crisis; PDP a defunct political party – Ganduje
The immediate past chairman of National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Sheikh Abdullahi Saleh Pakistan, has said denying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a second term could trigger political crisis.
Pakistan stated this in a while addressing youth groups at his residence in Kano.
He said Tinubu should be allowed to complete the second term to maintain smooth power rotation between the north and south, just as Former President Muhammdu Buhari was allowed to serve two terms.
The former NAHCON chairman cited improved security along the Abuja- Kaduna highway and a drop in food prices as some of the gains of the All progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Wednesday, described the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a defunct political party.
Ganduje made the remark while describing a former PDP presidential running mate and ex-governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his brother.
The former governor of Kano State spoke during the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria Annual Conference in Abuja.
Ganduje said, “My big brother, the former governor of Delta State and a former vice presidential candidate of the defunct party, PDP.”
The Senate, on Wednesday, moved to prevent a full-blown Ebola crisis in Nigeria, adopting sweeping resolutions for compulsory health screening of all international travelers, immediate emergency funding from the Service Wide Vote, and the urgent repeal of the 100-year-old Quarantine Act of 1926.
The resolutions followed an urgent motion under Orders 41 and 51, sponsored by Senator Francis Faduyile, a professor of medicine and specialist pathologist, who warned that Nigeria now faces a high risk of importation after the confirmation of its first Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory.
Presenting the motion, Senator Faduyile told the Senate that the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, declared in May 2026, has spiraled into the second-largest Ebola outbreak in history, with over 9,000 confirmed cases and 4,400 deaths recorded, and no approved vaccine or specific treatment yet for the strain.
He said the virus has already crossed into Uganda and, on October 6, 2026, into Kenya through a traveler from DR Congo, before reaching Nigeria.
The Pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and President of Igbo Agenda Dialogue, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has said that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, will record more votes from Lagos State than he did in the last general elections.
He said this while fielding questions from journalists on Wednesday in Abuja on the stance of the Igbo Agenda Dialogue on three issues, namely the comments being attributed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo against Peter Obi; claims that the North will not vote for an Igbo man; and the body language of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike who has declared that Rivers State and the FCT belong to the incumbent president.
Okorie said that Soludo has been reminded before now that he and Peter Obi are products of APGA and despite the invasion of Osun State by more than 30 governors, including the President of the Senate, the people of Osun demonstrated that they could elect their preferred governorship candidate in spite of the influence of federal power.
