NDC Cut Ties With Top Member
Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Edem Agbana, has stated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not protect any party member implicated in the alleged sexual abuse case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).
His comments come amid public scrutiny of the party’s handling of allegations against Zakaria Abdulai, the school’s headmaster and a former Juaben Constituency executive of the NDC.
The case has triggered debate over accountability and whether political affiliations could influence the handling of allegations involving individuals in positions of authority.
The NDC has maintained that the allegations must be investigated through the appropriate legal processes. The party has also stressed the importance of due process while investigations are ongoing.
On October 20, 2026, the party’s Functional Executive Committee directed Abdulai to step aside from the contest for the Juaben Constituency chairmanship to allow police investigations to proceed without interference. The decision followed an earlier move to permit him to contest the position.
The headmaster was interdicted by the Ghana Education Service following a directive from Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who also requested a police investigation into the allegations.
The case has drawn national attention following an investigative report by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, which raised serious concerns about alleged sexual misconduct involving female students.
Authorities are expected to follow the appropriate legal procedures in determining the facts of the case. The allegations have not, by themselves, established criminal guilt.
Agbana’s remarks reinforce calls for accountability and for the investigation to proceed without political considerations, regardless of the position held by anyone involved.
