NDC Finally Reveals What They Will Do About Obuasi SHTS Sẹ́x Abuse

Ketu North Member of Parliament Edem Agbana has insisted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not shield any individual affiliated with the party who is implicated in the alleged sexual abuse case involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

His comments come amid growing public concern over allegations against Zakaria Abdulai, the school’s headmaster, who previously served as an executive of the NDC in the Juaben Constituency.

The controversy has intensified discussions about accountability, particularly regarding whether political connections could affect investigations into allegations of misconduct by people in positions of responsibility.

Agbana’s position underscores the need for the matter to be handled through established legal procedures, irrespective of the political affiliations or status of those involved.

On October 20, 2026, the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee directed Abdulai to withdraw from the contest for the Juaben Constituency chairmanship pending police investigations. The directive followed an earlier decision that had allowed him to participate in the internal party contest.

Separately, the Ghana Education Service interdicted the headmaster following instructions from Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who also called for a police investigation into the allegations.

The case has attracted widespread national attention following an investigative report by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, which brought allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students to public attention.

The developments have prompted renewed calls for a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure that any proven wrongdoing is addressed in accordance with the law.

Although the allegations have generated significant public debate, they do not in themselves establish criminal liability. The outcome must depend on the evidence gathered and the applicable legal process.

Agbana’s remarks add to calls for transparency and accountability as the investigation continues, with growing expectations that neither political affiliation nor public position should prevent the law from taking its course.
