Hunter Schafer’s Nail Artist Shared Exactly How She Created the ‘Pink Sapphire Jelly’ Manicure

At this weekend’s Academy Museum Gala, Hunter Schafer opted for a vibrant “pink sapphire jelly” manicure that, like the rest of her ensemble—including her regal black-and-white Prada dress—was all about the details. It was Schafer’s first time at the annual event, and she seemed excited to set the tone. In conversation with Cultured Magazine on the carpet, she said: “We tried to spice it up. We matched the nails to the earrings, and added a little splash of mint to my glam, still sort of keeping the shape of a classic Hollywood vibe.”

Created by celebrity nail artist Kim Truong, the manicure was inspired by Schafer’s Chopard earrings, made of diamonds, kunzites, and sapphires, and designed to echo the jewelry’s luminous shimmer. Truong also worked with A$AP Rocky, Kim Kardashian, and Sophia Grainge for the gala. She shared her personal close-up photos of Schafer’s set, revealing the products and technique.

To start, Truong created a translucent purple base. She sheered out Chaun Legend Nails’ Get A Grape polish with the LGND Non Wipe Top Coat, giving the color a jelly-like finish. She then layered Silk Cat Eye in Pink Eclipse over the top, giving a multidimensional sheen reminiscent of the Chopard gemstones.

The result was a dreamy and playful addition to the fall manicure lineup, swapping the season’s usual opaque burgundies and deep browns for something lighter, glossier, and a little more unexpected. The jelly base made it feel light and natural, while the dynamic layers increased depth. It’s an especially chic option for anyone looking to experiment without committing to a fully saturated shade, or those who want to bring a touch of whimsy to an otherwise all black and gray wardrobe.
