YEA Increases Beneficiary Allowance From GH¢500 To GH¢800 – Basintale

The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced an increase in the monthly allowance paid to beneficiaries of the agency’s employment programmes from GH¢500 to GH¢800.

According to a report by Citi 97.3 FM on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the adjustment forms part of efforts to improve the welfare of beneficiaries and provide better financial support to young Ghanaians participating in employment initiatives.

The increase represents an additional GH¢300 per month for each beneficiary, equivalent to a 60 per cent rise in the previous allowance. The adjustment is expected to provide beneficiaries with additional financial support as they carry out their assigned duties under the agency’s programmes.

The Youth Employment Agency plays an important role in providing employment opportunities and supporting young people across Ghana. Through its various initiatives, the agency seeks to address unemployment by creating opportunities for young people to acquire practical experience, develop skills and contribute to national development.

The increase in the monthly allowance could help beneficiaries manage some of their daily expenses, including transportation, food and other essential needs. It may also provide some relief amid concerns about the cost of living and the financial challenges facing young workers.

Malik Basintale’s announcement comes at a time when employment opportunities and the welfare of young people remain important issues in Ghana. For beneficiaries who depend on the monthly allowance, the adjustment could make a meaningful difference in their ability to meet basic expenses.

However, the overall impact of the increase will depend on its implementation and the timely payment of the revised allowance to eligible beneficiaries.

The announcement also places attention on the government’s efforts to support youth employment and improve conditions for people participating in public employment programmes.

The development is expected to be welcomed by beneficiaries who have been receiving the previous GH¢500 monthly allowance.
