Don’t Drag Vice President Into Every Woman And Child Case – She Is Not A Policewoman — Awo Kekeli
A member of the NDC Communications Team, Awo Kekeli, has sent a clear warning to Ghanaians who rush to the Vice President’s office whenever there is an issue involving women and children.
According to her, the Office of the Vice President is not a criminal investigative body.
Awo Kekeli said when issues concerning women and children arise, they must be reported to the appropriate authorities who have the power to investigate and act.
She explained that the Vice President’s office is for policy, leadership and advocacy, not for investigating crimes. If a woman is assaulted or a child is abused, the case must go to the police, DOVVSU, the Gender Ministry, or the courts — not to the Vice President’s office for social media pressure.
Her comment comes at a time when many Ghanaians have been tagging Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on social media over recent cases of abuse, including the Obuasi SHS scandal and other gender-based violence cases.
Awo Kekeli said while the Vice President cares deeply about women and children, her office cannot replace the police or the justice system.
“If it is a crime, report it to the police. The Vice President’s office is not CID, it is not DOVVSU, it is not a court,” she stressed.
She is urging the public to use the right channels so that victims get real justice, not just social media noise.
