CHIEFS SEASON OVER? Fernando Da Cruz Drops Friday Night Bombshell That Left Fans Crying
CHIEFS BOMBSHELL! Da Cruz Admits Attack Is Failing Ahead of Must-Win Red Arrows Clash
SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL NEWS | 21 OCTOBER 2026
Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has admitted that his team must improve its attacking performance as Amakhosi prepare for a crucial CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Zambia’s Red Arrows. With their hopes of reaching the group stage hanging in the balance, the Soweto giants face mounting pressure to deliver a strong response on home soil.
Chiefs suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Red Arrows in Ndola on Saturday, leaving themselves with a difficult task ahead of Friday’s return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The result has intensified concerns about the team’s recent performances, particularly their inability to create enough clear-cut scoring opportunities.
The decisive moment arrived in the 77th minute when Malian midfielder Alassane Diarra rose unmarked to head home from a corner. His goal handed Red Arrows a valuable advantage and left Chiefs needing a victory in the return fixture to keep their continental ambitions alive.
Speaking after the defeat, Da Cruz acknowledged that his players must find ways to become more dangerous in the final third. The French coach admitted that the team’s attacking display was below the standard supporters have come to expect.
“For sure we need to change something to create more chances,” Da Cruz said.
He explained that Chiefs usually create considerably more opportunities in the Betway Premiership, making their performance against the Zambian opponents particularly concerning.
“Normally we create a lot more chances in the PSL. This is the first time we have not created a lot and we need to analyse and change something to be able to qualify,” he added.
The admission comes at a difficult time for Amakhosi, who are reportedly winless in their last four matches across all competitions. Their continental setback followed three consecutive league draws, increasing scrutiny of the team’s progress under Da Cruz.
Despite the growing pressure, the coach has urged everyone connected to the club to remain united. He believes collective support from the technical staff, players, management and supporters will be essential as Chiefs attempt to turn their fortunes around.
Red Arrows coach Chisi Mbewe, meanwhile, expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance but admitted that his players should have capitalised on their opportunities to secure a more comfortable advantage.
“Our target was to score three goals in this game and you could see by the chances we created,” Mbewe said.
However, the Zambian coach warned his players against complacency ahead of the return leg in South Africa, stressing the importance of maintaining their concentration and mental strength.
For Chiefs, Friday’s encounter represents a defining opportunity to revive their continental campaign. Da Cruz must find an effective attacking solution quickly, because another disappointing performance could bring their CAF Confederation Cup ambitions to an abrupt end.
