Junior Khanye Fires At Kaizer Jr Over Chiefs Decay — He Was Not Ready To Manage

Kaizer Chiefs’ former stalwart from Naturena, Junior Khanye, came into last week’s studio session with a predetermined verdict: Kaizer Motaung Junior does not have the demeanor, humility, or experience to lead the team to greatness.

During Motaung Junior’s playing days at the club, Khanye wore the famous Amakhosi jersey. He then delivered a scathing evaluation of the sports director’s tenure. Khanye claimed he blew the Andile Jali situation out of proportion by publicly admitting he wanted the veteran midfielder earlier, which Khanye took as an indication of haughtiness rather than tactical acumen.

Bringing up the subject head-on, Khanye purposefully contrasted Motaung Junior with Bobby, who had previously held the position of general manager at the Naturena headquarters. Khanye informed the hosts that Bobby “gave every senior player an honest ear” while he was there. “He got his hands dirty, was easy to get in touch with, and really bought into the team’s success.”

The present Chiefs administration has Khanye in its crosshairs due to a string of decisions that Khanye views as careless. He maintained that the difference between elite directors and wishful thinkers is that the pundit saw the release of Thabo Cele and the retention of Sibongiseni Mthethwa as more of a calculated sacrifice than merit-based squad management.

The image of officials from Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates standing pitchside after games, answering questions from supporters and taking criticism personally, is something that Khanye keeps seeing, and it makes him angry. That picture, with its welcoming and realistic setting against the backdrop of sold-out stadiums, is Khanye’s representation of the culture that the Soweto giants, in his view, have cast aside under this government.

Chiefs fans in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Gauteng are wondering if the board will do anything before the damage gets worse, or if the club’s devotion to its founding family will take precedence over its current obsession with winning championships.
