Political Rivals Share Platform as Leaders Pay Tribute to Veteran Minister Burudi Nabwera

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna met Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula at the solemn requiem mass of veteran diplomat and former Cabinet Minister Hon. Amb. Papa Burudi Nabwera.

Held at Friends Church in Lang’ata, Nairobi, the memorial service brought together high-profile politicians and state dignitaries who temporarily set aside their ongoing political rivalries to pay their final respects to one of Kenya’s pioneering public servants.

Senator Sifuna shared images from the service on his official social media platforms, commemorating the life and dedicated service of the late diplomat, whose illustrious career spanned international diplomacy, parliamentary service, and executive administration.

The high-stakes gathering occurred against the backdrop of heightened political debate regarding regional leadership and strategic realignments ahead of future electoral contests.

Speaking during the church service, leaders praised the late Ambassador Nabwera for his selfless dedication to national building, highlighting his historic role as Kenya’s first ambassador to the United States and his subsequent tenure as a distinguished Cabinet Minister.

Speakers reflected on Nabwera’s legacy as an exemplary benchmark for integrity, public accountability, and diplomatic excellence, calling on contemporary political figures to emulate his unwavering commitment to national unity, peaceful coexistence, and selfless public service.

Following the memorial service in Nairobi, the funeral arrangements will proceed to Western Kenya. A second requiem service is scheduled at Friends Church in Kiminini on Friday, preceding the final interment service on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at his home in Sango Farm, Trans Nzoia County.

The family, alongside political leaders and government representatives, invited members of the public to join them in honoring the legacy of a statesman whose contributions significantly shaped Kenya’s post-independence governance landscape.
