“Just Build Him a House, Don’t Give Him Cash” — Kenyans React as Ruto Is Urged to Do This for Sifuna

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has taken another swipe at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, making a remark about the senator’s lifestyle amid the growing political exchanges surrounding him and President William Ruto.

Kaluma’s comment comes at a time when Sifuna has attracted national attention over his political ambitions, grassroots fundraising efforts and growing disagreements with leaders allied to the government.

In the remarks shared on social media, Kaluma said Ruto should build Sifuna a house instead of giving him money. He went on to make claims about how the senator would spend any money he received, mentioning “yellow yellow” and Johnnie Walker.

The statement was a political jab, and the allegations about Sifuna’s spending should not be treated as established facts.

The exchange comes amid an increasingly public war of words between Ruto and Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election. The President has previously criticised Sifuna over his fundraising activities, while the senator has defended contributions from ordinary Kenyans as voluntary support for his political movement.

Sifuna has maintained that small donations from market traders and other supporters reflect their willingness to contribute to his political activities. He has also said he kept the Sh50 notes given to him by traders as a reminder of the people he hopes to represent.

The Nairobi senator unveiled The Equitable Party as his political vehicle on October 4, 2026, as he positioned himself for the next election. Plans have since emerged to rebrand the party under the Linda Mwananchi name.

Kaluma’s latest remarks add another chapter to the political exchanges surrounding Sifuna as leaders begin preparing for the 2027 contest.

The dispute also highlights the growing attention being paid to political fundraising, personal conduct and the use of public statements to challenge opponents.

As the exchanges continue, Kenyans will be watching how the leaders present their policies and political plans ahead of the election.

Do you think political leaders should focus more on policy issues than personal attacks during the run-up to 2027?
