11th Win for Rulani as Pyramids Beat El-Gaish 4-1
South African coach Rulani Mokwena continued his perfect start in Egypt on Tuesday as his Pyramids FC side claimed a comfortable 4-1 away win against El-Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League. The victory marked Mokwena’s 11th successive win across all competitions since taking charge at the club and kept Pyramids firmly on top of the table.
Pyramids opened the scoring early when Mohanad Lasheen found the net in the sixth minute. Mostafa Ziko doubled the lead nine minutes later to put the visitors in full control. El-Gaish pulled one back through Ahmed Tarek in the 34th minute, but the home side could not build on the goal. Pyramids restored their two-goal cushion after the break when Mahmoud Saber scored in the 77th minute. Mahmoud Zalaka then sealed the result with a late penalty in the 89th minute.
The result means Pyramids have won all seven of their league matches so far and sit on 21 points. They lead Al Ahly by five points, although the Cairo giants still have a game in hand. The win also extends Mokwena’s unbeaten run since he arrived from South Africa earlier this season.
Mokwena has quickly settled into life at Pyramids after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns. The former Downs coach has brought a calm and organised style that has produced consistent results in the league, the domestic cup and the CAF Champions League. Players and club officials have praised his work on the training ground and his ability to get the team performing at a high level from the first match.
With the league title still early, Pyramids will look to keep their momentum going in the coming weeks. Mokwena’s side face a busy schedule that includes more domestic fixtures and continental commitments. For now, the South African tactician and his players can enjoy another important win that strengthens their position at the top of Egyptian football.
