Sekhukhune United Appoint Former Zimbabwe International Tapuwa Kapini as Goalkeeper Coach

Sekhukhune United has hired former Zimbabwe international goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini as their new goalkeeper coach, enhancing the club’s technical team as they pursue their Betway Premiership goals.

Kapini, with his extensive playing and coaching experience, is anticipated to bolster the goalkeeping unit and improve the performance and consistency of the team’s goalkeepers throughout the season.

Prior to this role, Kapini worked with Highlands Park, where he played a key role in developing young goalkeepers. His ability to spot and nurture talent is expected to be an asset for the Limpopo-based club as they seek to enhance their options in goal.

Having previously played for Sekhukhune when they were in the GladAfrica Championship, Kapini is well-acquainted with the club’s culture.

On the international stage, he earned 43 caps for Zimbabwe from 2001 to 2013. His experience both representing his country and in South African football equips him with valuable insights to offer to the current goalkeepers.

Kapini will collaborate with the technical staff led by Papi Zothwane, who is managing the team following recent coaching adjustments. His responsibilities will focus on improving the goalkeepers’ positioning, decision-making, individual performances, and overall reliability.

The team’s goalkeeping lineup features Melusi Buthelezi, Toaster Nsabata, and Manuel Sapunga, offering Kapini a competitive environment to develop his players.

Kapini was already on the bench for Sekhukhune’s 2-1 victory against Marumo Gallants at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, where Bethuel Muzeu netted a last-minute winner.

His addition comes at a pivotal moment in the campaign, with Sekhukhune counting on his expertise to reinforce their defense and support their aspirations in the Betway Premiership.
