NGA 1-0 PUE: Four Flamingos Players Who Struggled in First Half Against Puerto Rico

According to a report by Flashscore on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Nigeria’s Flamingos went into half-time with a 1-0 lead against Puerto Rico in their second Group B match at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Although Oluwakemi Adegbuyi’s 25th-minute goal gave Nigeria the advantage, four players who featured in the opening half were Tosin Rafiu, Azeezat Oduntan, Esther Stephen and Mary Dunstan.

Rafiu featured in midfield as the Flamingos sought to control the game against Puerto Rico. The midfielder was part of the Nigerian team tasked with connecting the defensive and attacking departments while helping the side maintain possession.

However, the first-half assessment focuses on her performance as one of the players who struggled to make a significant impression during the opening period.

Oduntan was another midfielder involved in Nigeria’s attempt to establish control in the contest. Her role was important as the Flamingos looked to create attacking opportunities and support Adegbuyi in the forward areas.

Despite Nigeria taking the lead in the 25th minute, Oduntan was among the players whose first-half contributions are being assessed as the team sought a stronger overall performance.

Stephen featured in defence as Nigeria attempted to keep Puerto Rico from finding an equaliser. The defender was part of the backline responsible for protecting the Flamingos’ narrow advantage and limiting the opposition’s attacking threat.

With Nigeria leading by a single goal at the interval, maintaining concentration and defensive organisation remained important heading into the second half.

Dunstan also featured in Nigeria’s defensive setup during the opening 45 minutes. The defender shared the responsibility of helping the Flamingos preserve their lead while supporting the team’s efforts to prevent Puerto Rico from getting back into the contest.

Nigeria went into the break ahead through Adegbuyi’s strike, leaving the team with an opportunity to build on their advantage in the second half.
