Dwight Yorke Names Manager Who Could Replace Michael Carrick At Manchester United
According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has named Eddie Howe as a manager who could replace Michael Carrick at Old Trafford if the club decides to make a change following their disappointing start to the 2026/27 season.
Carrick took charge of Manchester United after Ruben Amorim’s difficult spell and managed to guide the team to a third-place finish in the Premier League last season, securing qualification for the Champions League. However, the progress made towards the end of that campaign has not continued, with the Red Devils struggling to find consistency in recent weeks.
United are now sitting 13th in the Premier League table and have gone six matches without a victory in all competitions, putting Carrick under increasing pressure as supporters wait for the team to turn things around.
Speaking about possible replacements for the former England midfielder, Yorke believes Howe is among the managers worth considering, especially following his departure from Newcastle United during the summer.
The former United striker said, “It’s a different managerial level when you come in at Manchester United but you ask yourself the question: who is out there and who will take it? That’s the questions we should be asking ourselves because we’ve tried two foreign managers who have come in and failed miserably, let’s be frank about those two. And certainly, we’ve given two ex-players opportunities to take the club forward. Carrick has done well, obviously Ole did reasonably well as well, but really where Manchester United are at. Who is out there? Howe would be one of those guys who stand out out there at the moment. He’s not in a job, looking for a job.”
Howe earned recognition during his time at Newcastle, where he helped the club become more competitive and guided them back into the Champions League. His experience in English football could make him an option if Manchester United decide to look for another manager.
For now, Carrick remains in charge, and his immediate task is to end United’s poor run of results and improve their league position before the club considers making any major decision about his future.
