Doctor Khumalo Lands Massive Top-Level SAFA Job in Danny Jordaan’s New Leadership Team

South African football icon Doctor Khumalo has taken on a new responsibility within the South African Football Association (SAFA), bringing his extensive experience in the sport into the organisation’s technical leadership.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has reportedly been appointed vice-chairman of SAFA’s Technical Committee. His new position provides an opportunity to contribute to discussions and decisions aimed at improving football development and strengthening the country’s technical structures.

Khumalo remains one of South Africa’s most recognisable football personalities, having earned widespread admiration for his performances during his playing days. His technical skills, creativity and ability to influence matches made him a popular figure among Kaizer Chiefs supporters.

Affectionately known as ’16V’, he also played an important role in the history of Bafana Bafana, representing the national team during a significant period for South African football. His experience at club and international levels could prove valuable as the association considers ways to improve the standard of the game.

The Technical Committee is an important part of football administration, with its work generally covering areas such as coaching, player development, technical standards and the identification of strategies to improve performance. Khumalo’s involvement could bring practical knowledge from his years in professional football to these discussions.

His reported appointment comes as SAFA’s leadership structure develops under president Dr Danny Jordaan, following the election of three vice-presidents. These leadership positions are part of the association’s broader administrative framework for managing and developing football across the country.

SAFA oversees several important areas of the sport, including national teams, coaching programmes, refereeing and football development at different levels. Its technical decisions can influence opportunities for emerging players and the long-term direction of the game.

For Khumalo, the appointment represents another opportunity to contribute to South African football beyond his achievements on the pitch. His understanding of the domestic game could support discussions about nurturing young talent, improving coaching standards and creating stronger pathways for aspiring professionals.
