Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100. Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced his death in a statement on Tuesday, describing him as a respected elder statesman who dedicated his life to serving Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
Aiyedatiwa said Fasoranti would be remembered for his wisdom, integrity, commitment to justice and good governance, as well as his contributions to the development of the country. Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has accused Cristiano Ronaldo of letting him and the team down during their time together at Old Trafford. In an interview with The Athletic, Ten Hag alleged that the Portuguese forward struggled with fitness, missed training sessions and failed to meet the club’s physical demands. He also claimed Ronaldo completed only two of three laps during a running punishment following United’s 4-0 defeat to Brentford in August 2022.
Despite acknowledging Ronaldo as one of football’s greatest players, Ten Hag said he had to make rational decisions as manager. He further alleged that the forward did not work hard enough in training and encouraged teammates to conserve their energy during sessions. Ten Hag maintained that while top teams must accommodate their best players, those players must also work for the benefit of the team.
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid a condolence visit to the family of former governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who died on Monday aged 71. Accompanied by his wife, Tobore, and government officials, Oborevwori sympathised with the deceased’s widow, Roli, and other relatives, describing Uduaghan as a great leader who played a significant role in his political career. He recalled that Uduaghan appointed him Special Adviser in 2007 and supported him throughout his political journey.
Oborevwori praised Uduaghan’s contributions to Delta State’s development, particularly the establishment of Asaba International Airport and projects undertaken without ethnic bias. He said the late governor’s impact would remain unforgettable and pledged to preserve valuable infrastructure inherited from previous administrations. Uduaghan governed Delta State from 2007 to 2015.
The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has accused President Bola Tinubu’s government of failing to address Nigeria’s insecurity, describing a reported remark by All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as an admission of failure. Yari reportedly questioned what Tinubu could do about insecurity if former President Muhammadu Buhari, a retired military officer, could not eliminate the problem. The ADC-PCC argued that the comment exposed the ruling party’s lack of confidence in its ability to protect Nigerians.
The opposition campaign council questioned why the APC should seek another four-year mandate despite persistent terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and killings. It urged the Federal Government to strengthen security agencies, improve intelligence gathering and provide adequate equipment for security personnel. The council also presented former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 presidential election, citing his proposed security reforms, technology-driven operations and job creation initiatives.
