Barcelona issue firm Lamine Yamal transfer statement
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has insisted that Lamine Yamal remains committed to the Catalan club despite continued interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, Laporta dismissed concerns that a lucrative offer from another European club could persuade the Spain international to leave Barcelona.
PSG previously made an unsuccessful €250 million bid for Yamal in 2024, and the French champions are still reportedly interested in signing the winger following his impressive performances.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding start to the 2026-27 campaign, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists in 11 appearances across all competitions.
His performances have also strengthened his reputation as one of the most valuable players in world football.
Speaking to French publication L’Equipe ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with PSG, Laporta was asked whether he feared another club could tempt Yamal away with a higher salary.
“No. We trust in our own strength. Barcelona pay their players well, and that has always been the case,” he replied.
The Barcelona president also highlighted the importance of the club’s environment in retaining its best players, suggesting that financial incentives alone would not determine their futures.
“What matters is feeling comfortable at the club. Away from Barcelona, the atmosphere is very cold. Here, we are in a good place.
“It is a well-organised, multi-sport club with a strong structure and good management. The players appreciate that. Of course, we are not perfect, but everything can be improved, and we are doing good work.”
Laporta believes Yamal’s connection with Barcelona, where he developed through the renowned La Masia academy, will make it easier for the club to retain him.
“Lamine is a La Masia product. He feels the colours of Barcelona, he is grateful to the club, and he is a Culer. All of that makes the renewal process easier.”
He added that the club were proud of the winger’s development and the affection he receives from supporters.
Yamal signed a contract extension in May that runs for more than five-and-a-half years, providing Barcelona with significant security over his future.
Laporta also described the teenager as a special talent, praising both his ability and mentality.
“Lamine is a genius! He has that magic inside him and that ability to amaze people. It is not just about the way he plays, but also his mentality.”
