Dede Ayew Breaks Silence on Rumoured GFA Presidential Bid
Former Black Stars captain André “Dede” Ayew has spoken about reports linking him to a possible contest for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency in 2027.
The 36-year-old forward confirmed that he had received calls from football stakeholders encouraging him to consider the position. However, he has not officially declared his intention to contest the election.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast hosted by former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, Ayew stressed that improving Ghana football should be the main priority.
According to reports published on October 20, Ayew believes discussions about future leadership should not distract from the problems facing the country’s football. He wants steps to improve the game to begin immediately rather than waiting for a change in leadership.
Mikel Obi also reiterated his support for the former Ghana captain, saying he was ready to campaign for Ayew to become the next GFA president.
Ayew has experience in football administration, having served as chief executive officer of FC Nania, the club founded by his father, Ghana legend Abedi Pele.
Meanwhile, current GFA president Kurt Okraku has not confirmed whether he will seek a third term in 2027.
With the election approaching, Ayew’s comments have added to the growing discussion about the future leadership of Ghana football. However, until he makes an official announcement, his possible candidacy remains speculation.
