According to a Post on Peter Tawaih official facebook account on Monday, October 19,2026,Ghanaian political commentator Peter Tawaih has challenged claims about the health condition of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, questioning assessments reportedly made following a prison visit by lawyer Ken Kuranchie.

In a Facebook post, Tawaih expressed disbelief at suggestions that Wontumi was fit and even healthier than Justice Sai. He questioned how Kuranchie could arrive at such a conclusion after allegedly spending only 30 minutes with the embattled politician at Nsawam Maximum Security Prison.

Tawaih said he initially chose to remain silent after hearing the claims but later decided to publicly challenge the basis of the assessment.

He also criticised what he described as a publicity-driven visit by NPP politician Annor Dompreh, whom he accused of taking cameras along during a reported visit to Wontumi to present rice and other provisions.

Using a comparison with patients receiving treatment, Tawaih argued that brief visits and public displays should not be mistaken for reliable evidence of someone’s medical condition. He suggested that the true state of Wontumi’s health would eventually become known.

However, the commentator admitted that he could be mistaken, indicating that he would apologise if Wontumi was indeed fully fit and his own claims proved unfounded.

Beyond the health controversy, Tawaih declared that he believed Wontumi needed a pardon, presenting clemency as what he considered an appropriate course of action.

The social commentator also made a cryptic remark about the possibility of Wontumi receiving second-hand clothing from someone he referred to as the “South Africa Akyea”. He did not provide further details to clarify the meaning of the statement.
