“Today, If You Take Me To Anywhere, If You Take Me To The Worst Hotel, I Can Sleep–Dangote
According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, October 19, 2026, Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and billionaire industrialist, has emphasised the importance of humility and simplicity, saying that wealth and social status should not prevent anyone from adapting to basic living conditions.
He maintained that people should remain grounded regardless of their financial achievements or position in society.
Dangote made the remarks at an event tagged Vision 2030 on Monday, where he discussed his personal approach to life and the need to maintain a simple lifestyle despite attaining significant wealth.
He stressed that material possessions should not determine how individuals perceive themselves or relate to others.
During the event, the billionaire also accepted an invitation from content creator Adebayo Ridwan, popularly known as Bae U Barbie, to feature on his YouTube programme, Curiosity Made Me Ask.
The invitation provided an opportunity for Dangote to share his views on personal values, humility and how people should conduct themselves regardless of their achievements.
The industrialist explained that his wealth had not changed his attitude towards basic necessities or his willingness to live in modest conditions.
According to him, being financially successful does not mean that a person must always demand luxurious accommodation or insist on enjoying privileges associated with their social standing.
Dangote maintained that simplicity was an important principle that people should embrace throughout their lives.
He indicated that individuals should not allow their accomplishments, influence or financial resources to create a sense of superiority over others, regardless of the level of success they have achieved.
He further explained that his ability to adapt to different living conditions reflected his belief that comfort and luxury should not become the ultimate measures of a person’s worth.
The billionaire said he could stay in an ordinary hotel and attend to his basic needs without feeling that his status required him to enjoy expensive facilities at all times.
Explaining his position, Dangote said, “Today, if you take me to anywhere, if you take me to the worst hotel, I can sleep, I can have my shower, I can live.”
“So because life is about simplicity, and make sure that, look, don’t take yourself up there,” he added.
