Here’s What Priest Killed After Crucifix Fall On Him Told Congregants Hours Later Before Tragedy

Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari made the remarks during Mass at Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Church in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on Saturday, 17 October. He had urged the congregation to spend less time on their phones and more time with God and their families.

He told worshippers: “One day, all of us who are here will also die, and sometimes the time we have used on things does not have as much meaning as the time we use in God.”

Minutes later, tragedy struck when a large crucifix mounted behind the altar fell on the priest during the livestreamed service, hitting him on the head. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but he was pronounced dead later that same day.

The priest had been delivering a message encouraging Christians to reflect on how they spend their time, reminding them of the importance of strengthening their relationship with God and making time for their loved ones.

His words took on a tragic meaning following the accident, with the sudden turn of events leaving those who witnessed the incident struggling to come to terms with what had happened.

The large crucifix, which had been mounted behind the altar, reportedly came loose and fell directly onto the priest while he was conducting the religious service.

The fact that the Mass was being livestreamed meant that the incident unfolded in front of viewers watching the service remotely.

The priest’s death has drawn attention to the unexpected nature of the tragedy, which occurred just moments after he had spoken about death and the value of time spent in faith.

For members of the congregation, what began as an ordinary Saturday Mass ended in grief following the sudden loss of their religious leader.
