Natembeya’s Dramatic Exit From County HQs Captured on Camera Amid Claims He Went Into Hiding

A video has emerged showing Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya leaving the county headquarters in Kitale under heavy security amid escalating tensions surrounding the Masinde Muliro Business Park dispute.

The footage captured Natembeya’s vehicle moving out of the facility as his security team surrounded the SUV.

Some officers appeared to hold onto its sides as the vehicle departed, drawing attention from people who had gathered at the premises.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 19, shortly after GSU officers barricaded the entrance to the county headquarters, creating a tense atmosphere as the disagreement over the newly commissioned market continued to unfold.

Natembeya had expressed concerns about the management of the facility and the allocation of trading stalls, maintaining that local traders should benefit from the project.

The situation took another turn after Abigael Gikonyo, a member of the Linda Mwananchi Digital, Media and Publicity Team, claimed in a statement shared on October 19 that the governor had reportedly gone into hiding following a raid at his residence.

Gikonyo clarified, however, that Natembeya was not at home when the alleged raid took place.

The circumstances surrounding the reported operation and the governor’s subsequent whereabouts remained unclear.

Linda Mwananchi team condemned what it described as efforts to silence opposition voices, pledging to continue speaking out on matters it considers important to constitutionalism and the rule of law.

The confrontation follows a public disagreement between Natembeya and President William Ruto over the business park, with the governor previously announcing plans to visit the facility before withdrawing his intended launch.
