The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom to stop giving money to people in Nigeria who seek financial assistance from them.

Obi made the call during a town hall meeting with his supporters in the UK on Sunday.

He urged them to rather encourage their relatives and friends back home to vote for credible leaders.

The former governor of Anambra State maintained that Nigerians in the diaspora should prioritize electing responsible leaders rather than continue sending money to people struggling.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr Peter Obi has said that he is not a saint but did what no other governor ever did while in office.

Speaking during a town hall meeting with his supporters in the United Kingdom, Obi charged Nigerians to vote someone who has proven to be productive.

He lamented the spate of hardship in Nigeria.

“You have people at home in Nigeria today who are begging you for money. Tell them no! Let’s put somebody who has proven to be productive.

Former service chiefs and retired military generals have resolved to do everything within their powers to ensure the re-election of President Bola Tinubu during next year’s presidential election.

The ex-service chiefs, comprising Lucky Irabor, the incumbent Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, and other retired army generals like Major General Adeyinka A. Famadewa (Rtd), General Abdulmalik Jibrin (Rtd), Major General A.T Ibrahim, General Sarkin Yaki Bello (Rtd) among others assembled in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Security Committee, described President Tinubu’s re-election as non-negotiable.

Speaking during the formal inauguration of the PCC Security Committee in Abuja, the former service chiefs and military generals promised to ensure the security of the country during the elections.

According to the Minister of Defence, Musa, the biggest responsibility before the members of the committee is to ensure safety and security both during the campaign period and the election proper.

The absence of three ministers serving in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, alongside 11 of Ondo State’s 12 National Assembly members and candidates, at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Akure has raised questions about party cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The inauguration, held on Saturday at the International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome) in Akure, was intended to launch the party’s mobilisation efforts for Tinubu’s re-election.

However, the absence of Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, and several federal lawmakers has drawn sharp attention to the strained relationship between the state party leadership and its influential political blocs.

The development comes amid lingering disagreements within the Ondo APC over party structures, political appointments, candidate selection, and the distribution of influence. Recent reports of tensions among key stakeholders and competing interests have heightened concerns over the party’s ability to present a united front.

The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has strongly condemned Vice President Kashim Shettima over disparaging remarks targeted at the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, describing the Vice President’s comments as an affront to political decency.

The reaction follows recent public statements by Shettima, who referred to Obi as “diminished” while simultaneously calling on political stakeholders in the North to maintain respect toward opposition leader Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement signed by POMR Spokesman Idris Zekeri Jnr, the media office questioned the vice president’s double standard in demanding respect for one northern opposition leader while dismissively disparaging another.

“Although Shettima has the right to oppose Obi, it is difficult to understand why he would demand respect for one opposition leader while casually dismissing another,” the statement read.
