Businessman Killed as Four Masked Men Armed With Machetes Storm His Club At Midnight

Residents of Nangili Market in Kongoni Ward, Kakamega County, have expressed concern following the killing of businessman Anthony Malungu by suspected armed attackers in the early hours of Monday.

Malungu was allegedly assaulted by four men at his business premises at approximately 12:30 a.m. Family members said the suspects wore black masks and carried machetes during the attack.

His wife, who owns the club where the incident took place, reportedly told police that they were asleep when Malungu woke up and went outside to relieve himself.

According to the account, the attackers confronted him outside and forced him back into the house, where they repeatedly struck him with machetes. He died from the attack at the scene.

The suspects are said to have taken his wife’s mobile phone and SIM card before escaping. Police have yet to establish the identities of the attackers or determine the motive for the murder.

Officers who responded to the incident discovered Malungu’s body lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom. They examined and documented the scene before taking the body to the mortuary for preservation and further procedures.

The killing has sparked renewed concerns about public safety in the area. Kongoni MCA Robert Kundu condemned the incident and called attention to what he described as the worsening security situation at Nangili Market.

Kundu appealed to the relevant security agencies to investigate the murder thoroughly, uncover the motive, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Authorities have opened a formal investigation and are following available leads in an effort to locate the four suspects. Residents have also been encouraged to stay alert and report any information that could assist investigators.
