Expect Rainfall in These Regions in the Next 24 Hours, Kenya Met Warns

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across 29 counties over the next 24 hours, warning residents to prepare for changing weather conditions in several parts of the country.

In a weather forecast issued on Thursday, October 15, the department said the outlook would run from 9pm on October 15 to 9pm on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The forecast covers counties in the Coast, Central, Rift Valley, Western and Lake regions, with varying weather conditions expected depending on the location and time of day.

Counties expected to experience rainfall include Lamu, Mandera, Marsabit, Embu, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho and Bomet.

Others are Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.

According to the forecast, some areas may experience light showers and localised thunderstorms, while others are expected to have partly cloudy skies and periods of sunshine.

The department has also issued a strong winds advisory for six counties, warning that southerly to south-easterly winds could exceed 25 knots, equivalent to approximately 46 kilometres per hour.

The affected counties are Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Garissa, Lamu and Tana River.

Residents in the affected areas, particularly fishermen, livestock keepers and people working outdoors, have been advised to take the wind conditions into account when planning their activities.

The forecast comes as Kenya enters the October-to-December short rains season, a period when weather conditions can vary significantly across the country.

Heavy rainfall, where it occurs, can increase the risk of flooding and other weather-related disruptions, while strong winds may affect outdoor activities and movement in exposed areas.

Residents are encouraged to follow official weather updates and take appropriate precautions throughout the forecast period.
