EPRA Raises Fuel Prices: Super Petrol Up by Sh12.93, Diesel by Sh9.90 and Kerosene by Sh28.49

Motorists and households across Kenya are set to face higher fuel costs following the latest monthly pump price review by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

Under the new review, the price of super petrol has increased by Sh12.93 per litre, while diesel has risen by Sh9.90. Kerosene has recorded the largest increase, going up by Sh28.49 per litre.

The adjustments are expected to put additional pressure on households, transport operators and businesses that rely heavily on petroleum products for their daily operations.

Petrol is widely used by private motorists, public service vehicles and other transport operators. An increase in its price is likely to raise the cost of commuting and running vehicles, particularly for Kenyans who depend on their cars for daily travel.

The increase in diesel prices could also affect the transport and logistics sectors, given the widespread use of diesel-powered trucks, buses and commercial vehicles. Businesses may face higher transportation costs, which could eventually be passed on to consumers through increased prices of goods and services.

Meanwhile, the sharp rise in kerosene prices is likely to hit low-income households that rely on the fuel for cooking and lighting, particularly in areas where access to electricity and other affordable energy sources remains limited.

Fuel prices are a major component of Kenya’s cost of living because petroleum products influence transportation, food distribution, manufacturing and other economic activities.

The latest review comes at a time when many households are already grappling with the high cost of essential goods and services.

EPRA conducts monthly reviews of petroleum prices, taking into account factors such as the cost of imported petroleum products, exchange-rate movements and other applicable charges.

The new prices are determined through the regulator’s established pricing formula, which governs the maximum retail prices of petroleum products in the country.

Kenyans will now have to adjust their budgets to accommodate the latest increases, with the impact likely to extend beyond fuel stations to transport fares and the prices of everyday commodities.
