PFA discards 4,000 rotten eggs, 200kg adulterated barfi in Multan
MULTAN – The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) intensified its crackdown on substandard and adulterated food in the City of Saints, destroying 4,000 rotten eggs and 200 kilogrammes of adulterated barfi during inspections of a bakery and a sweet shop. According to a handout issued by the PFA Multan division, food safety teams inspected food outlets in Peoples Colony and J Block of Shah Rukn-e-Alam colony. During the operation, the teams discovered fungus-infected, foul-smelling and rotten eggs at a bakery, while barfi adulterated with a starch-based chemical was recovered from a sweet shop. The rotten eggs were being used to prepare cakes, rusks, biscuits and other bakery products, posing a serious threat to public health. The food safety teams destroyed all 4,000 rotten eggs and five maunds (approximately 200kg) of adulterated barfi on the spot. Cases were also registered against the owners of the bakery and sweet shop at the relevant police stations. PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed said that no compromise would be made on providing citizens with pure, safe and quality food.
