Former MP Kimani Ngunjiri Reacts as Ruto Says Uhuru Kenyatta is a Conman
Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has criticized President William Ruto after the Head of State referred to former President Uhuru Kenyatta as a conman.
Speaking on KTN News Kenya’s #Yanayojiri program, Ngunjiri said the insults from President Ruto against his predecessors did not start today.
“Haya matusi hayajaanza leo. Rais aliwahi kumtukana Moi kwa kila namna, akamshambulia Kibaki, na sasa anamshambulia Uhuru. Anapowaita wengine matapeli, je, anafikiria yeye ataitwaje atakapoondoka madarakani?” Ngunjiri said.
Translated, the former MP said: “These insults did not start today. The President once insulted Moi in every way, attacked Kibaki, and now he is attacking Uhuru. When he calls others conmen, does he think what he will be called when he leaves office?”
Ngunjiri, who is the leader of the Farmers Party, was speaking during a discussion on KTN News’ Taarifa Kuu segment focused on the upcoming KumbukumbU Ya Raila Odinga memorial to be held in Bondo.
His remarks come after President Ruto, during a recent public rally, hit out at Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of conning Kenyans and mismanaging the economy during his tenure. Ruto has previously accused Uhuru’s administration of leaving behind huge debts and stalled projects.
Ngunjiri, once a staunch ally of Ruto in Nakuru, has since fallen out with the President and has become one of his vocal critics.
He argued that it is disrespectful for a sitting President to continuously attack his predecessors, including the late Presidents Daniel arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki, who are no longer able to defend themselves.
He called on Ruto to focus on delivering his promises instead of engaging in name-calling.
