The Police in Rivers State have arrested a man identified as Abuchi for allegedly killing his wife during a domestic argument in Amaji village, Umuoyoro community, Omuma Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Thursday at the couple’s farm in the community.

According to reports, the couple had engaged in a heated argument before the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a kitchen knife, inflicting a deep cut on her.

The victim, said to be a mother of two, later died from the injury.

A local source disclosed that residents were alerted after hearing the woman’s loud screams, which attracted people working around the farm to the scene.

The suspect was subsequently overpowered and restrained by community members before being handed over to the Police.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect is currently in custody.

“Yes, I can confirm the incident. The suspect has been arrested and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a detailed investigation into the incident with a view to ensuring timely justice on the matter,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Basic Rights and Accountability Campaign (CBRAC) has condemned the incident and called on the Rivers State Police Command to ensure a thorough investigation.

National Coordinator of the group, Prince Wiro, described the act as condemnable and urged the Police to ensure justice is served.
