Manchester City take on Paris Saint-Germain this evening on matchday two of the league phase of the Champions League. Enzo Maresca’s side are undefeated so far this term, in what has been a perfect start to the Italian’s tenure at the Etihad Stadium. He took over the reins from his former boss Pep Guardiola, who over the summer stepped down after ten years of service, including 20 trophies.

The Spaniard will be back tonight, but only in a spectating capacity, with one of the Etihad’s stands named after the club’s former manager. City play at home for the first time since an independent commission ruled a guilty verdict on 114 of their 115 charges for financial breaches, although an appeal process is in motion as the club pleads its innocence.

They take on a Paris side that has won this competition twice in a row, defeating Arsenal last season on penalties after a tense 1-1 draw in Budapest. The Ligue 1 outfit are sixth in France’s top flight after a stuttering start to the campaign, but the European stage is where they often do their best work. Paris are set to welcome back Nuno Mendes and Ousmane Dembele this evening.

The pair were rested for PSG’s first game after the international break, a 3-1 win over Le Mans, but have been named by Luis Enrique in the travelling squad.

There could be as many as eight changes from the weekend with Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Mendes, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all returning after being rested against Le Mans.

Phil Foden is available for selection after serving a three-match domestic ban either side of the international break as a result of being sent-off in last month’s Manchester derby.

Jeremy Doku could make his first start since August after making a telling contribution as a substitute at Anfield.

One of Antoine Semenyo and Iliman Ndiaye is at risk of making way for Doku, while Josko Gvardiol for Nico O’Reilly could be the change in defence as the England international did struggle up against Victor Munoz.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to face his former club for the first time since leaving the Parc des Princes and Haaland will lead the line as he bids to score for a seventh successive Man City game.
